Selling Lies

Selling Lies (2019) from Academy Award-nominated director Leslie Iwerks tells the story of the Macedonian fake news industry and its influence on the 2016 United States election. In this 30-minute documentary-short, Iwerks introduces audiences to a network of teenagers who crafted fake political news stories during the months leading up to the 2016 election. In doing so, she reveals the extreme wealth they accrued and calls attention to its resounding impact, which still shapes American politics. Artfully captured and poignantly told, the film brings forth a critical and topical conversation on media use, misuse, and political corruption. (Written by Eleanor Shields ‘20)
