Midnight Traveler

Midnight Traveler, is a documentary film directed by Hassan Fazili that follows the journey of the director and his family as they flee persecution by the Taliban in Afghanistan and pursue refuge in Europe. The film is shot exclusively on handheld phones by Fazili and his family and recounts the challenges they face on the long and dangerous road to obtaining refugee status in Europe. This affecting documentary provides first hand insight into the dangers that refugees face and lends a humanized perspective to the international refugee crisis. Midnight Traveler provides a fantastic opportunity to inspire dialogue about international topics like the treatment of global refugees and the ways those issues manifest on a local level here in Lewiston/Auburn. Among other accolades, the film earned the No Borders – World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival, and the Golden Gate Award, McBaine Documentary Feature Award Winner at the San Francisco International Film Festival.
