Anike Tourse (’92) is a graduate of Bates College, class of ’92, who then went on to receive her Master of Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University. Tourse is a multimedia maker who has worked both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. She is the writer and director of the award-winning short film America: I Too, which played at the 2018 Bates Film Festival and is distributed by CHIIRLA, the largest social justice and education film distribution company in the United States. Tourse has also written for television series like One Life to Live on ABC and Girlfriends on UPN. Additionally, she is a playwright who authored “No Milk Today,” which premiered at the 2015 Wisconsin Fermentation Fest, and she has written and performed several solo shows. Her productions have toured across the United States and around the world, including at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the largest international theater festival in the world, and on a national Nigerian tour sponsored by the 7-UP Bottling Company. In 2016, she returned to Bates to perform a solo show during new student orientation. Tourse’s current project, Frances the Fish, revolves around the lives of mixed ethnic and mixed status families who are having difficulties staying together in the face of legal obstacles and changes to immigration enforcement policies.
