Stephanie M. Pridgeon is a Bates College Assistant Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies. In addition to leading Spanish language courses at Bates, Professor Pridgeon has also taught Latin American Studies classes addressing a variety of topics including gender and sexuality in Latin American literature, Jewish Latin American Cinema, and testimonial literature and film. Pridgeon’s individual research concentrates on the intersection of ethnicity, gender, and religion in 20th and 21st century Latin American film and literature. Her concentration in Latin American cinema is highlighted in her forthcoming book, “Revolutionary Visions: Jewish Life and Politics in Latin American Film,” in which she analyses the representation of Jews in political movements in recent Latin American film. Professor Pridgeon obtained her Ph.D. in Spanish from Emory University in 2015, an M.A. in Spanish from the University of Virginia, and a B.A. in Spanish, Latin American and Caribbean Studies from the College of Charleston. Recently, Pridgeon was awarded a “Jews in the Americas” Visiting Research Fellowship by the University of Florida’s Price Judaica Library. (Written by Will Holland, ‘20)
