Stacey Kabat graduated from Bates College in 1985, and has been a director, producer and screenwriter. She is passionate about human rights advocacy and perhaps best known for writing Women’s Rights, Human Rights in 1999. She also wrote and co-produced Rape Is…. in 2003 and co-produced Strong at the Broken Places: Turning Trauma to Recovery in 1998. In 1992, she won a Rebook Human Rights Award for her efforts to improve the lives of abused women and in 1994, she won an Oscar for Best Documentary Short Subject for Defending Our Lives, a short film that exposed the severity of domestic violence in the United States. In 1995, Kabat presented at the NGO forum during the United Nation’s Fourth “Conference on Women” in Beijing. Kabat is currently running her nonprofit, Peace At Home, and is a maternal/child health nurse and a lactation consultant at Mass General in Boston. (Written by Daniella Pascucci ‘20).
