Erin Murphy

Erin Murphy is a Maine-based documentary filmmaker, freelance videographer, and film professor at Colby College. At Colby, Murphy teaches “Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking” where students make documentary shorts about the food industry in Maine, “Digital Publishing” where students learn about different ways to make media and put them online, and an “Archival Film” course. Before Colby, she worked at Bucknell University as an instructional technologist, teaching faculty and students how to use video in class or for research. For the last few years, Murphy has been working on a documentary called Wazo Idea, which follows young members of a Portland activist art collective. Her documentary addresses questions of power structures and the ethics of subject involvement when filming. (Written by Clemmy Callaway ‘20)
